Jesus tames the untameable (2)

Resolving Personal & Spiritual Conflicts,  Pastor Mairos

JESUSMark 5:2 … neither could any man tame him.Besides an unruly tongue demoniacs are also untameable. By means of human strength can no man prevail over demon-possessed persons. It is a common feature in deliverance sessions that one thin possessed man overpowers a group of strong men. When a person is possessed he or she is given spiritual power by the spirit controlling him or her. This spiritual power can be turned into extraordinary physical strength during demonic manifestations. And in such manifestations mere human strength is insufficient to match the physical strength of the possessed persons. From this analysis a principle is derived: spiritual power is greater than physical power.
To prove this principle true I will cite two examples. Recently, it was published in one local newspaper that a gun failed to control the powers of a witch. We all know that were physical life is concerned a gun is the weapon of choice to quickly end it or to control it without much resistance. But in the case of witchcraft salt accomplished what a gun failed to accomplish. The reason is that witchcraft is not a physical force but a spiritual one. Spiritual forces are effectively controlled by spirituals forces and physical forces are effectively subdued by other physical powers.
Another example that shows us that spiritual power is greater than physical power is the account of the demoniac of Gadara. The account in Mark 5 reads that when Jesus came to the country of the Gadarenes “there met him out of the tombs a man with any unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him , no, not with chains.” The demoniac was so strong that he could easily break chains and fetters. Chains and fetters are used by the police and the jailers to limit the physical freedom of lawbreakers but in dealing with spiritual forces they are useless.
Verse four records, “Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.” Satanic power could not be subdued by mere physical strength.
There are parents who try in vain to beat disobedience and naughtiness out of their children. And there are spouses who try to change the behaviour of their husbands or wives by shouting at them or punishing them in countless ways but to no avail. The reason for their failure to effect behavioural change is that the cause is spiritual and therefore cannot be cured by non-spiritual prescriptions. We   need the ability to discern the spirits we are dealing with in every situation so we can use the right means to address the situation. For instance there is a place for using a rod to discipline a child. But such means is only effective if the problem is non-spiritual. There are health problems that can be relieved by medical means. But there are other health problems that can only be solved by spiritual means because their causes are spiritual. Problems with spiritual root causes require spiritual power to solve them. Jesus revealed this truth after his disciples had failed to heal the demoniac son. He said to them in revelation of the secret to dealing with such cases, “This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29). Prayer and fasting is the source of spiritual power to deal with demon-inspired situations.
Because Jesus was full of spiritual power through constant prayer and fasting he could subdue all demoniacs.
The legion spirits, whom no man could control, were tamed by Jesus Christ. He cast out the unclean spirits which caused the man to be restless and he became restful.
The demoniac who lived among tombs and in the mountains was domesticated. He could now live in his home and among other people. He used to cut himself with stones and crying day and night in the mountains but such irrational behaviour ceased.
Sanity was restored. And the character of the demoniac was so completely transformed that Christ could assign him the significant work of witnessing the power of God to his fellow citizens.
Christ’s power is so efficacious that it can instil in the heart of an estranged man the homing instinct of a pigeon. His divine power succeeded in turning Saul the persecutor of Christ’s churches into Paul the planter of Christ’s churches around the world. What is it that you find untameable in your life? Is it your spouse, sickness, poverty or your sinful habit?
Take a stand of faith and ask Jesus Christ, the conqueror of the spirits of death and hell, to tame it for you. But be prepared to pray and fast in order to release the divine power that will accomplish great feats for you to the amazement of your family, friends and associates.
