Mugaga headlines the 2024 service economy survey
RENOWNED economist and Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer Christopher Takunda Mugaga is expected to headline the prestigious 2024 annual State of the Service Economy Survey unveiling ceremony, the Financial Gazette reports.
To be held on Tuesday 3 December at the Nest, in Borrowdale, Harare, this year’s event is expected to shed light on Zimbabwe’s progress in harnessing the service dividend for investor attractiveness and economic development. Running under the theme, “Going beyond for you”, the 2024 service economy survey is a call to action for private, public, and development sector players in Zimbabwe to go beyond normal in pursuit of service excellence to their local, regional, and international customers.
Mugaga is a renowned economist whose impact transcends the Sub-Saharan African region and beyond. He is also a qualified and practicing legal practitioner and boasts several professional accolades under his belt.
In 2020, Mugaga was recognized by Junior Chamber International (JCI) as one of the Ten Outstanding Young People (TOYP) in Zimbabwe. In 2022, the Institute of Corporate Directors Zimbabwe also recognized him as Zimbabwe’s best Young Director of the Year. Chris currently sits on the board of the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) – the national standards body of Zimbabwe, where he chairs the Audit and Risk committee.
He is a past board member of the Competition and Tariff Commission where he chaired the Restrictive Practices committee for eight solid years. Currently, Mugaga sits on the COMESA Business Council board, the private sector arm of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa responsible for advocacy and representation, trade facilitation, investment promotion, business networking, and trade-related capacity building, among others.
Mugaga’s wealth of experience transcends economics, investment promotion, and trade facilitation at a local, regional, and global scale. This unique standing made him the best fit for the 2024 State of the Service Economy Survey guest of honour as we challenge ourselves to go beyond in pursuit of our shared vision to become a prosperous upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
Meanwhile, preparations are at an advanced stage for this year’s ceremony, proudly bankrolled by financial services giant, ZB Financial Holdings, in partnership with the Financial Gazette and Tatu Advertising.
As part of its social investment and sustainability efforts, ZB Financial Holdings has committed to national development through investing in this national survey on service whose insights have a far-reaching impact on our national economy, corporate organisations, the public sector, and local communities as Zimbabwe leverages service for sustainable national development.
