The benefits of godliness
All you require is godliness. Godliness has wonderful benefits in this world and eternal benefits in the world to come. 1 Timothy 4:8 says that physical exercise profits a little but godliness is very dear, a pledge of life, both there (heaven) and here (earth). This simply means there is greater gain in serving God more than in serving anyone else. You enjoy temporal blessings here on earth and eternal blessings in heaven.
But how should one serve God in such a manner that the blessings of good health, long life and others will come upon him and overtake him?
Well, firstly you are required to serve God only (1 Samuel 7:3). God wants your undivided service. Those who have earthly masters can serve God only by doing whatever they do in word or deed as unto the Lord (Col. 3:23).
Secondly, serve God with humility of mind (Acts 20:19, Phil 2:7).
Thirdly, learn to serve God immediately (Mark 1:18). God commands prompt service.
The fourth requirement is serving God joyfully and willingly (Neh.12:43; Judges 5:2). God prefers the willing-hearted in His service to those who need to be coerced.
The fifth point is serving God sacrificially as and when necessary (2 Sam 24:24). God will not receive leftovers or handouts. He deserves your best.
Lastly, serve God faithfully as a steward. Promotion in the kingdom of God is based on faithfulness in your service to God and man.
Let us not just pray to God that He bestows the same favour upon us as was upon Jacob, Joseph and Daniel without also rendering faithful service to God and man as they did.
Choose now to serve God and man in godliness and you will spend your years in prosperity and your days in pleasure in this life, and you will spend eternity in bliss and joy.
