Shape up your skin in 2009

Join us for the upcoming weeks to journey into the world of your body!!

Scientifically the body can be defined as the integral physical material of an individual, “body” is often used in connection with appearance, health issues and death.
But how do you as an individual view your body?
Are you insecure about the shape of your body? Do you compare the shape of your body to that of others? Or are you happy within yourself? How do you take care of the skin on your body?
You must be overwhelmed by these questions! But these are of course the most common questions concerning body types.
However, there are many factors which can influence your ideas on this matter relating to your specific needs and concerns.
Body shape, weight and skin tone affects your posture and general level of confidence, and a pleasing shape implies good health and fitness of a body.
Females generally store fat in the buttocks, thighs and hips due to the effects of estrogen and men around the belly area, the overall shape of the body does not alter much over a lifetime.
We are going to give our readers the opportunity to feel more vibrant, healthier and stronger than ever before!
Make this the year you commit to a healthier life for today and beyond.
In the “naughties”, women lead chaotic lives, balancing their home life with their advancing careers, leaving precious little time to take care of themselves, women generally tend to the need of their family’s before their own and eventually this takes a toll and leaves them exhausted.
This is why it is so important for them to take time out every once in a while, dedicating an hour to themselves, having a massage, a facial or just a relaxing bubble bath!
Exercise also plays a vital role in helping women to maintain a sense of “self”, recharging both mind and body, builds energy and reduces your stress levels!
Apart from boosting your confidence levels, melting pounds, dropping the all important dress size, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, increases your odds of living a longer life and preventing disease.
Current studies show that the most effective way to losing and keeping off the pounds is a combination of both moderate exercise and a healthy diet.
Personal grooming can enhance your confidence, and make you appear more approachable but is often overlooked.
Shaving, shampooing, washing and drying your hair, clipping your nails can instantly make you feel more attractive.
People wouldn’t realise but even clothing changes the appearance of the body.
Some types of fashion may enhance the shape of the body, while others may force your body into a shape which defies gravity creating a totally unflattering look.
Wearing high heeled shoes can make your legs appear longer magically altering body proportions.
Healthy eating — The key to a healthy diet and weight management is portion control and NOT to cut out food groups, especially carbohydrates and proteins. The concept is very easy: if you eat less, you consume fewer calories! Calorie control is the best way to lose weight.
Keep a daily food diary and record everything you eat in the day, this is tedious but studies show those who keep daily food records lost twice as much as those who don’t.
A general idea of calorie consumption is as follows: a woman weighing 120  55kg would need a calorie intake of 1200 calories.
On average a woman should be consuming 1200 calories per day, an adolescent girl 1400 calories and a man 1600 calorie per day. Take a look at these surprising fats about your favourite foods!
Food    Calorie Count
Raw Banana             72
Egg, whole hard boiled 50g                           78
Cheddar Cheese 17g cube                    69/17g
Orange Juice 1 cup 112
Slice of Bread 1oz/60g
                 196
Chicken Breast boned, skin removed 86g    142
The best way to stick to a healthy eating plan is to keep it enjoyable. Try new foods, adding spices to your cooking to add a new flavor without the extra fat content.
“Go round the world,” with dishes from Mexico, India and China. Add beans to a salad, puree them for a dip or cook them up as a side dish. Grill fresh veggies for an easy side dish, make plenty and use them in a salad or as a sandwich filling the next day.
For healthy snacks to keep you nourished throughout the day keep your kitchen stocked with healthy snacks like roasted nuts, fruit, veggies such as cucumber/carrots/peppers — have them ready to eat so peeled, sliced and washed — popcorn, wholegrain crackers and low fat yoghurt and cottage  cheese to use as tasty low fat dips.
Stay fit — It’s hard to overstate the importance of exercise, both cardio and strength training.  It builds energy, helps fight off diseases, reduces stress and promotes sleep – not to mention melts pounds.  “Exercise builds self confidence!”
Easy steps to add into your day to day routine are to walk wherever and whenever you can, take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator, walk to your colleague’s desk instead of calling or e-mailing.
Walking is a great form of exercise plus it’s free!!  And as exercise is always easier with a friend, start a walking club — make a standing date with your walking partner to motivate each other.
While you are cooking tighten those thighs by doing some hamstring exercises such as some calf raises or to get a quick arm workout ditch the electric beater and use a hand whisk instead, vacuuming the house adds exercise to you daily household chores and keeps your house looking great!
A minimum of 55 minutes of exercise a day, five days a week is what you need to be doing to achieve and maintain significant weight loss.
So get moving!!!
