Why some prayers go unanswered
The gifts they seek may be such as God has promised. The fact, however, that they are chiefly desired in order to attain personal pleasure, ease or advantage, makes it impossible for God to grant the request consistently with his love for the one who prays.
Indeed, nothing could be worse to the character of any child than to get everything he asks for, without any regard on the part of the parent to the moral effect of his compliance.
The first concern of God’s love and wisdom is not to gratify our uncontrolled wishes so much as to sanctify our hearts and lives. Hence, many a lesson comes by way of unanswered prayer which could never be learned were our requests granted.
Many believers do not expect to receive answers from God. They hurriedly make their requests before God and sneak away back to their business without expecting to receive from God what they asked for. Some are even surprised if God grants them their requests because they never expected him to answer. Expect to get results.
Finally, some brethren pray like petulant children who want the things right here and now. If they do not get them soon, they give up saying that it was never meant to be anyway. They want God to do it their way and to bring the answer according to their format and pre-conceived notions. God knows what is best for you so trust His wisdom and love.
Persist in shamelessly asking God to grant your requests and because he cannot stand shameless persistence, he will grant your requests in full measure.
Praying expectantly and persistently with the right motive before God is the only pathway to prayer in which divine answers are the normal experience.
