God of impossibilities
Are you facing an impossible situation? I mean a situation that has caused you sleepless nights, and brought you to your wit’s end. You have sought help among your fellow mortals but to no avail. Even the experts in counselling, intercession and deliverance have given up on you. Some have actually told you that only God can now deal with your issue. Others, like Job’s wife, might have suggested to you to now curse God and die. You have prayed and fasted but the heavens have remained shut. It seems to you that the only response God is able to give you is dead silence. You are wondering what on earth is happening to you.
Yes, you committed a sin but you know you confessed it and forsook it and you have received the assurance that God heard you and forgave you and cleansed you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:8,9). When you compare yourself with others around you, you find out that you are far much better than them in terms of faith, love and faithfulness in serving God. But you cannot figure out why they are getting blessed every time while you seem to be the dead among the living. Temptations to quit going to church, to stop congratulating others for their blessings and to give up on life completely are crouching at your doorstep. But I dare you to wait a moment and give the God of impossibilities a chance.
Perhaps the God of impossibilities has allowed your situation to come to extremity so that He can appear to you in “another form”. You have known Him as a God who does little things like healing headaches and providing you just enough food for the day. You have measured Him with your little mind and placed Him in a matchbox. You think you now understand all His ways and all that He can do. Let me submit to you that your problem is in your perception of God. You place your problem high above God’s ability. You are telling God how big your problem is instead of telling your problem how big your God is. Probably, you need a thorough study on the largeness, vastness and greatness of God in order to comprehend that His thoughts and ways are far higher and greater than your ways and thoughts (Isaiah 55:8,9).
What God was saying through the prophet Isaiah was that He has abilities which human beings know not of, and that He has means by which to accomplish impossible things that we mortals cannot access. I know that your impossible situation is not your biggest problem because you heard testimonies of people who were delivered from similar situations. Your biggest problem is not what must be done in order for you to a have a breakthrough. You know what is required. For instance, if you have need of finances, you know the amount you want and why you want it. And if you are sick with a terminal disease you know you want healing.
If your case is barrenness, you know the solution is fruitfulness of womb. If you are failing to secure the hand of a partner in marriage, you know that your joy will come when you eventually find the love of your life. But your biggest problem is how the solution to your problem will come. You have no problem with the what, and the why. The how and the when are your problems.
However, take heart, though your situation is not possible with human ability, it is possible with divine ability for there is nothing too hard for God (Luke 1:37; Genesis 18:14).
I want to strengthen your heart and encourage you with examples in the Bible. Sarah too found her situation impossible. When the birth of the much-awaited Isaac was foretold, she laughed in disbelief. She cited many genuine and strong reasons why it was not possible for her to conceive. She had even failed to wait for God’s time and offered Hagar for a wife to Abraham. She asked the same how question, “How could a worn-out woman like me have a baby?”
Mary, the mother of Jesus asked the same question in her own impossible situation of conceiving without a husband. In response to her how question, the angel replied that the impossible would be accomplished by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The means by which your impossible situation will be made possible is the divine power of God. God’s power is creative, massive and effectual. Will you stop running around and messing around and trust God to deliver you by His outstretched arm that set Israel free from the vice-grip of Pharaoh?
