‘Money’ Mayweather Tops Celebrity Pay List
CHAMPION boxer Floyd Mayweather has lived up to his nickname “Money” as he was named the world’s highest-paid celebrity.
The US sports star earned an estimated $300m (£190m) in the past year, mostly due to last month’s fight against Manny Pacquiao which experts have called the richest boxing match in history.
Mayweather, who won the Las Vegas bout by a unanimous decision, also became the highest-earning athlete ever, beating the previous record held by Tiger Woods who made $115m (£73m) in 2008.
Filipino Pacquiao was second in the Forbes top 100 list, bringing in $160m (£101m) over the past 12 months.
Their final earnings from the 2 May bout have not yet been disclosed but there were a record 4.4 million pay-per-view subscriptions for the fight and media coverage of it around the world.
US singer Katy Perry was third on the list with $135m (£85m), helped by her Prismatic World Tour.
She played 124 shows during the past year, 75 of them abroad in 27 different countries.
According to her managers, 60% of her income now comes from foreign markets, reported Forbes.
Perry was followed by British boy band One Direction with $130m (£82m) and TV and radio host Howard Stern with $95m (£60m).
Country music star Garth Brooks was number six with $90m (£57m), while pop singer Taylor Swift tied for eighth place with actor Robert Downey Jr on $80m (£50m).
British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay at number 21 with $60m (£38m) was the highest earning chef ever on the list.
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian, who earned $28m (£17m) in the previous list, nearly doubled her earnings to an estimated $52.5m (£33.3m), according to Forbes.
Kardashian was placed just above Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence who was number 34 with $52m (£33m).
Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson, number 65 with $35.5m (£22.5m), were the only two film actresses to make the 100 list, compared to 14 male movie stars.
Forbes compiled its list by estimating stars’ pre-tax earnings from 1 June, 2014 to 1 June, 2015. Management, agent and lawyer fees were not deducted. – Skynews.
