German midfielder Mesut Ozil has been announced as Arsenal’s player of the Season, as voted for by fans.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a stellar first-half of the season for the Gunners, regularly notching up assists as his side topped the Premier League standings at the turn of the year.

His performances waned somewhat in 2016, yet his contribution was immense, totalling eight goals and 20 assists across 45 games in all competitions by the end of the season, with an 85.7 percent passing accuracy while creating 171 chances for his teammates.

“Few will forget his performance in the 3-0 defeat of Manchester United in early October, nor his outstanding contribution during a golden period that took in victories against Bayern Munich, Everton and Swansea City as the Gunners moved to the top of the table,” Arsenal said on their official website.

The Gunners would however drop out of all cup competitions and finish second in the League – their highest finish over the past decade.

Ozil was voted his club’s best ahead of forward Alexis Sanchez and Spanish right-back Hector Bellerin, yet was excluded from the EPL team of the season.

Ozil will hope to take his club form to national level as Germany begin their preparations for Euro 2016, kicking off in France next month. Kickoff.com
