EcoCash partners with Zuva Petroleum
ECONET’S mobile financial service EcoCash has partnered with Zuva Petroleum to give EcoCash customers an option to pay for fuel via mobile money.
This is the second such partnership EcoCash has entered into in as many weeks after a similar deal was reached with Total Zimbabwe.
EcoCash is linking up with various partners and suppliers in Zimbabwe to promote the use of plastic money as an alternative to using cash.
Econet Wireless Chief executive officer Douglas Mboweni said: “In our continuous endeavour to bring convenience to our customers, we are actively promoting the use of EcoCash as a preferred method of payment. The partnership we have entered into with Zuva Petroleum today is a testimony of the vision we share with them towards achieving a cashless society.”
In recent weeks EcoCash has signed up Total Zimbabwe, Food Lovers and Zimpapers. This goes a long way in allowing customers to transact without the need to have physical cash. The move complements government’s efforts to encourage use of plastic money as the country moves towards a cashless society.
The EcoCash GM Natalie Jabangwe said: “There are still many retailers who still do not have the infrastructure that enables customers to use plastic money for the purchase of goods and services both in formal and informal sectors. We are therefore continuing to invest in the appropriate technologies which includes investment in POS machines and other electronic platforms which lessen the reliance on cash for day-to-day transactions as we help promote the ease of doing business.”
