Italian Serie A giants Juventus make Coppa Italia history with final win over Lazio
JUVENTUS became the first team to win three successive Coppa Italia titles as they romped to a 2-0 win over Lazio in the 2017 final on Wednesday evening.
Goals from Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonucci saw the Italian giants lift the trophy for the third straight year, the first time the feat has been achieved in the country.
Keita Balde Diao came close to giving Lazio a sixth-minute lead but saw his shot on the counter-attack deflected onto the base of the post.
However, Juve responded with a shot through Gonzalo Higuain which brought an excellent save from Thomas Strakosha, although the goalkeeper was beaten soon after as Alves fired a volley into the ground before the ball bounced into the top corner.
Juventus made it 2-0 just before half-time from a corner, which Alex Sandro knocked down for an unmarked Bonucci, who made no mistake to tap home from close range.
Felipe Anderson came close to halving the deficit shortly after half-time but saw his fierce shot tipped away by the fingertips of Neto, who was then again called on moments later to somehow claw Ciro Immobile’s header off the line.
However, there was to be no way back for Lazio as Juventus eventually ran out comfortable winners and history makers. – kickoff.com
