Tyler Perry splitting from Oprah’s OWN
THE rags-to-riches actor, writer and director, Tyler Perry, has allegedly signed a major deal that will require him to produce 90 episodes annually of original drama and comedy series for BET and other Viacom networks.
Perry won’t be leaving Winfrey just yet, but the deal is in place to start in 2019 and is set to run through 2024.
You may remember, in 2016, the two best of friends had a setback in their friendship. While keeping it professional, their close relationship seemed to have been drifting away.
At one point the two were only speaking to each other only if it were business related.
Tyler Perry’s beginning days at OWN brought a lot of creative ideas and strong bonding at first.
‘But that relationship has soured in the last six months because Oprah finds Tyler difficult to work with and he doesn’t take constructive criticism well at all,’ a source explained back in 2016.After Winfrey suggested Perry hire more writers to improve the writing for the show, things took a turn for the worst.
On a better note, Tyler seems to be well on his way to Hollywood’s Hall of Fame after such big deal.
“Tyler is a prolific creative force, and I’m excited that this collaboration will bring his signature humor and powerful storytelling to Viacom’s audiences while further cementing BET’s position as the leading home for bold, relevant African-American programming and scripted content,” Robert Bakish, the chief executive said in a statement.
