Man United tactics do not suit Pogba: Wayne Rooney

FORMER Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes current manager Jose Mourinho needs to change his tactical set-up to see midfielder Paul Pogba flourish.

Pogba, 24, has been under intense scrutiny from the Red Devils head coach over the past month and reports have surfaced over a possible falling-put between the pair.

The club-record signing was substituted after 63 minutes during the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham last Wednesday and was left on the bench on Saturday for the 2-0 victory over Huddersfield.

With three goals and nine assists in 15 starts, Pogba’s statistics with United holds fair reading but with the technical quality at the disposal of the France international, Rooney feels his talents have been subdued with the current 4-2-3-1 formation with the Premier League giants.

“For me, Paul Pogba is a classic box-to-box player,” the former England captain said on Sky Sports. “He can do a bit of everything really well.

“If he has that freedom where he doesn’t have to think too much about his defensive role he can cause mayhem. At Juventus, he had [Andrea] Pirlo alongside him.

“With [Nemanja] Matic and another alongside him, on the left of a three in midfield, that will certainly get the best out of him.” – kickoff.com
