ZIMSTATS And POTRAZ Release ICT Access And Usage Reports For Zim’s Education And Health Sectors

Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTATS) and POTRAZ came together to conduct a survey measuring the access and usage of ICTs within schools and health facilities across the country.

The reports were made with the goal of identifying areas with low ICT penetration in order to rectify this. In the health census; 1 489 health facilities were successfully interviewed looking at areas such as access to electricity, access to radios, DTH (Direct to Home) TV’s, access to mobile phones, computers and so on and so on. On the educational side; 7 955 institutions were surveyed across primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

The survey also looked at the amount invested by the government on ICT equipment in 2017, which saw that educational institutions and health facilities got $19.5 million and $1.5 million respectively.

According to ZIMSTAT, the censuses were conducted following “internationally agreed methodologies to allow for international comparison.” The information was collected across all 10 provinces and in all land use sectors.

The reports offer an informative look into the technology, or lack thereof in these health facilities and educational institutions and hopefully, they’ll be used to inform countrywide policy going forward.
