The rapper says he is taking “this threat very seriously” and consulting with his lawyers over the alleged remark.
Police in New York are investigating claims that officers were ordered to shoot the rapper 50 Cent “on sight”.
Deputy Inspector Emanuel Gonzalez, who commands the 72nd precinct in Brooklyn, allegedly made the comment during a roll call last June.
In response, 50 Cent said Mr Gonzalez was a “dirty cop abusing his power”, and a “gangsta with a badge”.
“Now I’m looking at the cops different,” he wrote on Twitter, adding: “The sad part is this man still has a badge and a gun.
“I take this threat very seriously and I’m consulting with my legal counsel regarding my options moving forward.”
The NYPD told Sky News “the matter is under internal review”.
The incident was not recorded and Mr Gonzalez tried to pass the comment off as a joke, the New York Daily News reported.
Roy Richter, president of the NYPD Captains Endowment Association, told CNN the allegations against Mr Gonzalez were “completely false”.
Mr Richter added: “It was 50 Cent who put the safety of the inspector and his family in jeopardy by publishing a threatening tweet that called for violence last year,” referring to a since-deleted social media post that allegedly appeared to threaten a police officer.
NYPD Sergeant Jessica McRorie told CNN that following that post, the force had filed a formal complaint against 50 Cent on Mr Gonzalez’ behalf for aggravated harassment in May 2018. – news.sky.com
