Econet speaks on network challenges
ECONET Wireless Zimbabwe says a serious network fault in Masvingo triggered the network challenges experienced by its customers on Monday.
The company said the fault caused call failures in that region only, but after the problem was resolved, an abnormal surge in traffic led to instability on its key network systems.
“This resulted in intermittent failure by customers to make calls, send SMS (messages), browse mobile data or to use USSD for services such as Ecocash and the purchase of product bundles across the network,” the company said.
It said while its network systems and infrastructure included redundancy, or backup systems, the current foreign currency shortages in the country made it difficult for the network to support its systems to levels which cater for unusual challenges.
“We are confident of our backup systems, but (unhindered) access to foreign currency would certainly enhance the robustness of these systems” the company said.
