Simon Cowell issues ‘good advice’ on riding electric bike after breaking his back

Simon Cowell has thanked medics following surgery on his broken back after he fell while testing a new electric bike.

The entertainment mogul was taken to hospital where he had an operation on Saturday night, which involved a number of procedures including having a metal rod put in his back.

Cowell is understood to have been with his six-year-old son Eric at the time of the fall at his house in Malibu.

In a post to his 11.3 million Twitter followers following his surgery, Cowell wrote: “Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time.

“I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.

“And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met. Stay safe everyone Simon.”

Cowell’s representative said he was “doing fine” after the six-hour procedure and is still under observation.

A source told the PA news agency that while Cowell had suffered “a bad injury”, doctors were describing him as “very lucky”.

Cowell’s partner Lauren Silverman accompanied him to hospital and has been able to see him briefly.

The British businessman is the creator of America’s Got Talent and serves as a judge on the show.

He has also been the judge on Britain’s Got Talent, The X Factor and American Idol.

Speaking earlier about the incident, Cowell’s spokesperson told entertainment website Deadline: “Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family.”

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden was among the stars to send a message of support to Cowell, wishing him a “speedy recovery”.

Last month it emerged Cowell had bought Sony Music Entertainment’s stake in TV programmes including Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor.

The move sees him gain ownership of all the international versions of The X Factor and Got Talent programmes.

The Got Talent format airs in 76 markets, while The X Factor is broadcast in more than 130 territories.

Sony Music’s share of the venture has transferred to Syco Entertainment, a company solely owned by Cowell.

Filming on the next stage of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent has been postponed because of the coronavirus crisis but ITV has said it hopes to continue the series later this year. – skynews.com
