Wigan fans excited as Tendayi Darikwa joins from Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa has departed the club to sign for Wigan Athletic on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The right-back has struggled to force his way into Chris Hughton’s plans, with Cyrus Christie and Carl Jenkinson both ahead of him in the pecking order.

Darikwa joins the Latics looking to play a first-team game for the first time since March 2019.

He suffered a serious knee injury prior to the 2019/20 campaign and was robbed of a chance to impress Sabri Lamouchi.

Darikwa was on the bench for Forest three times at the back end of last season but failed to make an appearance.

The 13-cap international was out of contract during the summer and now joins the League One outfit.

Wigan are battling to avoid a second successive relegation having dropped out of the Championship last season.

The 29-year-old signed for Forest for £1 million in 2017 and made 63 appearances in the Garibaldi, scoring once.

Following news of his arrival, Wigan fans took to Twitter to discuss their new arrival.
