THE Quality Corporate Governance Center (QCGC) will host a massive Chairperson’s Lounge in Hwange to explore ways of promoting corporate governance and nurturing competent Chairpersons in the country and the African region.
The Chairperson’s lounge which is slated for October 27 -30, will run under the theme ‘Africanacity in the Cockpit as we take over the globe’.
According to the event organisers, the Chairperson’s Lounge will bring together industry leaders, renowned speakers, and thought leaders to shape the future of Africa’s Corporate Governance.
The event which is not only an opportunity for networking will also give insights into the corporate world’s future in Africa.
Businessman Dr. Shingi Mutasa will be the guest of honour and is expected to speak about entrepreneurship.
Speaking to the media recently to announce the dates of the Chairperson’s Lounge, chief executive, Tendai Rusere said the lounge is an exclusive event to define what it means to be a Chair in Africa at all levels.
“The Quality Corporate Governance Center is dedicated to promoting excellence in corporate governance practices across Africa. Through events like The Chairperson’s Lounge, the Quality Corporate Governance Centre aims to foster leadership development and collaboration in the business community,” said Rusere.
He said the centre has the capacity to train all the parastatals in the country.
“At this moment we have a bigger team of consultants helping us to evaluate and implement the international results-based management system in the public sector. We are at the centre and forefront of pushing trends and dogma in corporate governance.
“The chairperson’s lounge was created out of seeing the need to define what it is to chair in the African space, what it means to be a chair at different levels, at executive level and middle management level. We are also working on producing the African Chairperson’s Handbook which will be used by all chairpersons in the country.”
Chairperson Advocate Canaan Dube weighed in saying the centre has been training various organisations and state-owned institutions in corporate governance and leadership development.
He said to date at least 107 State-owned enterprises have been trained on corporate governance and ethical leadership by the quality corporate governance centre.
“These enterprises we trained in corporate governance and ethical leadership are public sector entities. This means they are either wholly owned or partly owned by the Government.
“We trained all critical staff in governance issues up to Permanent Secretaries in line ministries,” he said.
