Nigerian techpreneur for BPL Harare conference

NIGERIAN techpreneur Keturah Ovio will share tips on disruptive business models that leverage legacy and emerging technologies at the upcoming International Business Conference in Harare.

Scheduled for May 9, 2024, at the Celebration Centre, the event, hosted by BPL Africa Connect, will focus on the theme “Strategic Agility in a Dynamic Environment.”

Ovio, the founder of Dukka, will impart valuable insights into how her company is revolutionizing the African business landscape through the power of people, data and artificial intelligence. “Technology has the potential to address numerous human challenges, if not alleviate them entirely,” she said, emphasizing her belief in the transformative power of innovation to uplift communities and drive economic advancement.

Keturah Ovio is a techpreneur

Dukka, established by Ovio in 2019, is committed to this vision. The company offers a diverse array of digital payment and bookkeeping solutions tailored to support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Africa, which serve as the backbone of the continent’s economy.

Through intuitive mobile applications and a compact, intelligent point-of-sale (POS) terminal, Dukka simplifies the process for small businesses to accept digital payments, manage their finances, and access critical business insights.

“Many SMEs in Africa still rely on cash transactions and manual bookkeeping methods, which are inefficient and leave them vulnerable to errors and fraud,” explains Ovio. “By digitizing these processes, we promote financial inclusion, enhance business operations, and ultimately foster growth and prosperity for entrepreneurs continent-wide.”

The impact of Dukka, a Nigerian startup, is already palpable. Since its inception, the company has successfully onboarded thousands of SMEs across Nigeria, equipping them with essential tools and assistance to navigate today’s increasingly digital business landscape.

Furthermore, Dukka has forged partnerships with financial institutions and other stakeholders to extend its services to underserved communities, broadening its reach and impact. For Ovio, the pursuit of financial inclusion is deeply personal.

As a trained software engineer and serial entrepreneur, she has firsthand experience of technology’s transformative potential in driving economic and social progress. Ovio is resolute in ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation are accessible to all, irrespective of background or location.

“My passion has always been leveraging technology to address real-world challenges,” she affirms. “And there’s no challenge more urgent to me than the financial exclusion prevalent in many African communities.

By empowering SMEs with the tools they need to thrive, we not only bolster individual enterprises but also lay the groundwork for sustainable, inclusive growth that uplifts entire communities.”

Meanwhile, BPL Africa’s Lionel Marumahoko Snr said several international speakers such as Centum Investment Company PLC Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director James Mworia Mwirigi and CEO Coaching International Partner Mr Ahmed Hassan and First Capital Bank Zimbabwe Managing Director Tapera Mushoriwa will grace the event.
