Zimbabwe A Women in Rwanda for Kwibuka Women’s T20I tourney

Zimbabwe Cricket has sent a Zimbabwe A Women’s side to Rwanda for the Kwibuka Women’s T20I tournament, scheduled for 30 May to 8 June.

They join national women’s teams from Botswana, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda and the hosts in the annual tournament that started in 2014.

The Zimbabwean side includes nine Under-19 players, with the trio of senior internationals Chiyedza Dhururu, Loryn Phiri and Kelis Ndhlovu providing some experience.

The wicketkeeper Dhururu will captain the team.

Phiri was named in the International Cricket Council’s Women’s T20 Team of the Year in 2021.

Ndhlovu, who captained Zimbabwe at the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup last year, has been a regular on the international scene since she made her debut against Namibia in 2021 as a 16-year-old.

Upcoming bowlers Kudzai Chigora and Michelle Mavunga have also travelled to Rwanda.

The Zimbabwe A Women’s technical team is led by Trevor Garwe, who also doubles up as Zimbabwe Under-19 Women’s head coach and Zimbabwe Women’s bowling coach.

Nonhlanhla Nyathi, who was Zimbabwe Women’s wicketkeeper from 2006 to 2017 and is also part of the Under-19 national team coaching staff, is assisting him.
