Baldmin Holdings Up for Prestigious African Manufacturing Award
Baldmin Holdings, a Zimbabwean engineering and mining equipment company, has received a nomination for a prestigious African award, solidifying their position as a leader in the continent’s manufacturing and mining sector.
The nomination comes in the Emerging Small to Medium Scale Companies category of the African Company of The Year Awards (ACOYA).
ACOYA recognizes companies across Africa that demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous improvement and sustainable business practices. Baldmin impressed the judges with their dedication to several key areas.
The company caters specifically to the needs of small and medium-scale miners in Africa by offering custom-made equipment solutions at reasonable prices. This focus on affordability and practicality addresses a critical gap in the market, ensuring miners have access to the tools they need without breaking the bank.
Beyond their core business, Baldmin prioritizes social responsibility. Their commitment extends beyond profits, with scholarship programs that empower disadvantaged children, particularly girls, by providing educational opportunities in both the US and Zimbabwe. This dedication to social good highlights Baldmin’s understanding of their role in fostering a brighter future for the communities they serve.
Client satisfaction is paramount for Baldmin. The company prioritizes high-quality products, good corporate governance, and exceptional customer service. This ensures that miners receive reliable equipment, backed by strong business practices and a commitment to their needs.
“This nomination is a tremendous honor,” said Eng. Costar Takawira, CEO of Baldmin Holdings. “It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. We believe in continuous learning and development, and that philosophy is a cornerstone of our success.”
Takawira attributes the company’s achievements to its strong company culture that fosters continuous learning and empowers employees. He also acknowledges the supportive environment provided by the Republic of Zimbabwe, which promotes local investment.
Looking towards the future, Baldmin is actively investing in its growth. The company is currently constructing a massive new warehouse and workshop facility in Harare. This ambitious expansion project will see them acquire a 7-hectare plot, significantly increasing their production capacity. The new facility is expected to be completed by February 2025 and will create over 20 new technician positions in the assembly lines and machine shop.
The expansion also includes the procurement of state-of-the-art machinery from China, facilitated by their South African head office based in Benoni. Deliveries are scheduled for the end of August 2024.
Baldmin’s success story transcends the company itself. Their nomination for the ACOYA award puts Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector on the international stage, showcasing the country’s potential for innovation and excellence. Furthermore, the company’s commitment to local investment and job creation aligns perfectly with the government’s vision of promoting domestic industry and attracting foreign investment.
