NACZ seeks funding for NAMA
Calling on interested partners to come and assist in ensuring that the event happens as planned, the NACZ says the 10th edition of the awards will run under the theme “A Decade of Excellence and Creativity” and will take place at 7 Arts Theatre, in Avondale, Harare, at a date to be annouced.
In a statement, the NACZ deputy director, Nicholas Moyo, said “the NACZ is still calling on sponsors and partners to fund accommodation and transport for artistes from outside Harare, trophies and prize money for the artistes among many costs that will make NAMA the event Zimbabweans want it to be”.
He said the authority had managed to secure sponsorship for the PA system, lighting, decor and filming of the event.
The adjudication process, he said, which started in December last year, was completed last week and that the arts and culture authority is now looking forward to announcing the nominees soon. He said the theme of this year’s edition is indicative of “a decade of excellence and creativity through NAMA”.
The inaugural NAMA was held in February 2002 and it is the main forum where the NACZ recognises outstanding achievements in the area of arts by rewarding excelling artistes with awards of merit.
The aim is to stimulate more interest in the arts and raise the profile of the same.
“The NACZ considers the awards as one of the means that has stimulated and encouraged creativity and quality in the arts thus putting Zimbabwean arts and culture on the international map. The 10th NAMA will recognise outstanding work produced during the period December 1 2009 to November 30 2010,” said Moyo.
“As has been the tradition of NAMA, the public will be given an opportunity to choose artistes of their choice online and through SMS voting under the respective categories. In this voting, tickets for the show will also be given to lucky individuals.”
Artists will be recognised from the following arts disciplines; music, theatre, dance, film and television, visual and literary arts, as well as media covering arts journalists.
