God’s answer to unemployment

God is too big to be completely understood by the human mind. Yet most of His solutions to our complicated problems are very simple; in fact so simple that we often ignore them.
For instance, the problem of unemployment is widespread. Some people try to resolve this issue by stealing from others, even killing others to take away their goods.
This solution is not good. It is not the right way to earn a living. It is a cursed means of survival. Above all, judgment and punishment are closely attached to this criminal and sinful solution to unemployment. Other people resort to begging.
While the Bible acknowledges the existence of the invalid and the need for those who have means to give alms towards them, this solution is sometimes abused.
People who are able-bodied can be seen at road intersections begging for money and you wonder if it is not sheer laziness driving those people into begging. It is not uncommon to be approached by the same person three times on different streets on the same day asking you for five rand for bus fare. The first time you may believe they are in genuine need and so extend a helping hand but when you meet them the second time on the same day you know they are using begging as a means of survival.
Still other people, especially women, can find a solution to their unemployment in commercial sex working. They earn a living from selling their bodies. The threats of HIV and Aids and the police awaken them to the indignity and wrongness of their career.
On the other hand men often venture into drug dealing, coning, and sale of harmful substances in order to earn a living. Just like stealing this means of survival is ignoble and liable to punishment. In the spiritual circles we have sorcery, divination and fortune-telling as ways to make money.
However, since there is nothing that is hidden that shall not be exposed, most practitioners find their ‘profession’ short-lived and their sources of income cut off.
By now you are raring to hear what then could be the best solution to unemployment. You think of the academic way and nod your head saying this is it. But your awareness of many folks who have degrees but loitering around without employment disturbs your mind. You think of sports. Yes many are living off sporting activities and other entertaining professions like music. But can all be good at sports and entertainment?  Surely some should be involved in business ventures to make money. But the question that immediately comes to mind is: what kind of business activity is viable? Is it white collar, blue collar or technical? You wonder and spend eternity in the valley of decision while life passes you by.
To help you out; here is God’s simple solution to unemployment: whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might (Eccle. 9:10) or whatever you do prospers (Psalm 1:3). What does God mean by this? God is saying in effect that, do not worry that you are not educated or trained, just do that which comes handy to you.
If it is selling tomatoes, do it with all your might. If it is commodity broking, do it with all diligence. If it is singing, sing with all your heart. If it is writing books, write them without slothfulness. If it is typing, do it with all dexterity.
Whatever you do, it will prosper as long as you are careful to acknowledge that God is the one that gives you the power to get wealth. In other words the overriding factor is whether you regard God as the true source of supply or not. If you do, then venture into anything noble and honest that you feel capable of trusting God and people to see your faithfulness and to reward you. Just do something! If you want an idea of what to do then think of doing something that benefit others. Self-centredness limits our ingenuity and sources of money.
Focus on benefiting others and before long, you will begin to benefit in the process.
When you add studying, planning, diligence and faithfulness to whatever your hand findeth to do, you will soon be a creator of employment for others.
