Dance extravaganza at Reps Theatre

The show, dubbed Melange, will incorporate dance acts from the National Ballet, Tumbuka and the Dance Foundation Course, and will feature two separate programmes, which can be enjoyed at different performances.
Programme A, which was held on Tuesday and and will be featured again today, includes the return of one of the Harare International Festival of the Arts 2011’s highly acclaimed dance masterpieces, Down The Aisle of Heaven.
Dance Foundation Course dancers have choreographed this, guided by artistic director Soukaina Edom, and the piece will again open the Melange show tonight.
Programme B featured the premiere of Brian Geza’s Shift, which will star dancers from Tumbuka and the Dance Foundation Course. This programme opened yesterday and will again be featured tomorrow and Saturday.
The remainder of the show is made up of acts by various dancers from the Dance Trust community, including works choreographed by Mel Carruthers, Gilbert Douglas, Maylene Chenjerai, Jimu Makurumbandi, June Cloete, Mathias Julias, Nikki Carter, Michelle Nativel, Timikha Fisher and Bright Chinyama. These dances will be included in both programmes.
Said Eve Stranix of the Dance Trust: “This show will feature some of the best dancers in the country and a range of dance styles, and will be enjoyed by a wide range of audiences of all ages. The two programmes allow us to incorporate longer pieces that each stand alone in their own right, but which add huge value to a show of this nature, and we recommend that people may wish to see a performance of each programme.”
Booking for the show is open at The Spotlight, in the Reps Theatre foyer.
