Kudzai Sevenzo, Prudence in sexy comedy
Written and directed by National Arts Merit Awards-winning Rumbi Katedza, Playing Warriors “is a sexy comedy with a social conscience” and stars celebrity figures Kudzai Sevenzo, Nothando Nobengula, Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana and Tendai Musoni.
The film’s co-producer, Jackie Cahi, said the film focuses on the lives of four friends – modern young women in the city – and how they struggle to find a balance between the traditional expectations of their parents and society and their own dreams.
The love interests are played by musician, John Pfumojena, as fun-loving Che and Edmore Sandifolo as Leslie, the more mature and successful love interest.
“The film is set against the backdrop of professional career woman Nyarai (Kudzai Sevenzo) and her championship basketball playing sister, Mati (Nothando Nobengula). Nyarai is walking a romantic tightrope – balancing wannabe supermodel, toyboy, Che, with sleek man-about-town, older boyfriend, Leslie,” said Cahi.
“We join Nyarai and her friends on a journey of discovery of what it means to be a modern woman as they figure in which direction to take their lives, without simultaneously upsetting too many people.”
The film also features local favourites, Walter Muparutsa and Elizabeth Nyanguridza, as Nyarai’s parents and there are humorous cameo roles from Gavin Peters, Edgar Langeveldt , Michael Kudakwashe and Ben Mahaka.
Playing Warriors is Katedza’s first long feature film laying Warriors is Katedza’s first long feature film

Playing Warriors will launch with a red carpet cocktail premiere, Cahi said adding that tickets will be on sale at Zimbo Jam, Alliance Francaise and the Book Café.
