When things aren’t moving

The steps of a child of God are ordered by the Lord. And the term order means special selection. This means a true child of God or servant of God should live a controlled life. A life controlled, guided and directed by God. If we understood this then we would not go to certain places or do certain things we have no business going or doing in God’s order of things. The beauty of living a divinely controlled life is that when things are not moving for you, you do not have to force them. You stop and ask God for direction.
God orders are our steps in many ways. The most common ways He uses are His written word and the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Bible gives us general guidance on every issue of life. And the Holy Spirit gives us specific guidance especially in issues of life that are not readily spelt out in the Bible.
Obedience to these two divine guides is crucial. Thus basically, if things are not moving in your spiritual life it is either you are not obeying a certain part of God’s word or you are disobeying the guidance of the Holy Spirit somewhere.
When you miss God’s order of things by living in rebellion to His word or Spirit or by acting contrary to His stipulated order He normally uses natural things to tell you that you are off course.
And if you do not stop and retrace your way back to where you have missed God situations will continue to be tight for you until you get hurt.
A beautiful illustration of times when thi-ngs stop mo-ving because God’s ways are violated is the account of Balaam riding his ass going to curse Israel, God’s chosen nation.
God had spoken to Balaam not to go but he insisted. So God sent an angel that would stand in the way against his progress towards Israel. Three times God opposed his move. The donkey saw the angel and understood the resistance of God to Balaam’s mission. Firstly, it stopped in the middle of the road.
Secondly, it turned aside. Thir-dly, it bowed down. But Balaam was not aware of the Lord’s resistance. He beat the ass at every stop till it finally spoke to him about the Lord opposing his mission. It took a miracle of the donkey speaking for the spiritually dull prophet of God, Balaam, to realise that things were not moving because his mission was not blessed by God.
What happened to Balaam then is happening to us toady. God is speaking through nature, circumstances and people around us but we do not discern. We insist it is the devil holding up our breakthroughs. Yes, it is true that sometimes the devil withstands our moves like in the case of Daniel fasting for 21 days to get a breakthrough. If we discern the devil is opposing then submit to God, and get violent resisting him and he will flee from you. But it is also true that in some cases when things are not moving for God’s children, God’s order has been missed somewhere. In such cases force, violence, prayer and fasting will not cause the situation to change.
Obedience to God’s prescribed order of things is the key that unlocks padlock situations.
You must be discerning enough to see or hear God’s signals in natural circumstances. You may be failing to get the right wife or husband for a long time and you think a jinx is the reason why things are not moving in this aspect of your life. You are about to choose anyone you meet first tomorrow morning.
But have you also considered it could be God trying to get your attention either to tell you not to marry at all or to protect you from contracting HIV. You may have something you really desire to buy but no matter how much you try to save or borrow you cannot gather the required amount.  Is it not likely that you are not observing God’s order of things where finances and patience are concerned? Are you paying your tithes? Are you patient or you want to get rich quick?
When you come to a dead end do not force things, let them eventuate by seeking to know God’s will in that situation. Not every closed door must be forced open; some of them must be left alone. It might be a situation of divine preservation by deprivation. Grow in the grace of Abraham; he could discern God’s voice ordering him to go and sacrifice Isaac at Mt Moriah and he could also discern the same voice ordering him not to kill him.
He really knew God and his faith was therefore pliable and flexible. He could follow God at every twist and turn without missing Him or forcing things. The result was that all his things moved. All your things can move but first be sure to move at God’s bidding without forcing things.
