Believers’ untapped power

Pastors and priests should teach their congregations on how to use the power and authority they have in Christ. Or else we are the ones driving people into the arms of the psychic and false prophets by denying them the supernatural.
People are searching for answers, and if we do not provide the answers by tapping into our God-given supernatural, miraculous power we must not condemn hurting people who search for help and guidance from the occult.
Despite there being many scriptures that show that the church has been given power and authority over an already conquered Satan, we have many Christians crying foul saying that the devil is continuously wreaking havoc in their lives. Satan, the defeated one, is binding his own masters. This is exactly the kind of anomaly that prompted the preacher in Ecclesiastes 10:5-7 to say, “There is an evil which I have seen under the sun  . . . I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.” In God’s eyes it is an evil thing for Christians to be under the dominion of Satan whom Christ has triumphed over, whose power He has spoiled and whose works He has destroyed. It should hurt Christ’s heart to see that we are not enjoying all the benefits of His victory on the cross.
According to the New Testament Satan was really defeated and disarmed by Christ Jesus. In addition to conquering Satan, Jesus conferred upon us believers the power and authority to control Satan and his works. Luke 10:19 and Acts 1:8 record the fact that we were given power and authority.
The devil has been conquered and that conquest has been credited to the believer’s account making him or her more than a conqueror. The devil knows that every Christian is his master. But the tragedy is that many Christians are ignorant of this important legal transaction. We perish spiritually because we lack spiritual knowledge (Hosea 4:6). We have the same power that raised Christ from the dead residing in us as believers but we fail to tap into it because of ignorance. We have the power to take Satan captive but instead he takes us captive because we lack knowledge of the power we have. Instead of readers asking to be taught these things they prefer to request for prayer. They do not know that the explanation is the cure. And here is the explanation you need to walk in divine dominion.
Christ Jesus is the source of our power and authority. This means you cannot exercise the power and authority apart from Christ. Seven sons of Sceva did that and were thrashed by demons (Acts 19). You must submit to Christ as your Lord first, then He authorises you to use His victorious name.
The power and authority we are talking about is spiritual, not physical. It is power and authority to use in the spiritual realm against evil spirits, and not against other people (Ephesians 6).
The word power (dun-ameos in Greek) means the ability to rule. Authority means the right to rule. Thus Christ has conferred upon every believer the right and ability to rule over the devil, to cast out devils, to heal the sick and to be His effective witness.
We are not supposed to go around seeking devils. That is abusing the authority and power.  Our responsibility is go about teaching and preaching the gospel of Christ but when we encounter a Satanic hindrance we then use our God-given authority and power to control the devil. I will give you a perfect illustration in the natural realm.
A policeman has the right to stop traffic at an intersection because he has been commissioned by the state which has civil authority (Romans 13:1-5). But authority is not enough; some mischievous drivers can just drive past because the policeman has no physical power to stop traffic. To be effective the policeman must have a gun and some handcuffs. This makes him both authoritative and powerful in accomplishing his responsibilities.
The same applies to the spirit realm. Believers have been given both authority and power to control Satan and to do God’s will. Stop saying that you are not strong or mature enough to control Satan’s activities in your life. A ten year old child can effectively use this authority just like an old grandmother in Christ. When you believe in the authority and power you have and begin to exercise it you will soon realise that Satan fears you more than your fear him. Knowing how and when to use our God-given authority and power is the key to walking in divine dominion.
