Use God’s power in you
Power comes in various forms. Some boast in financial power. Others glory in political power. Still others take pride in nuclear and atomic power. Servants of the devil put their trust in wicked, dark and destructive powers but the children of God should boast in the divine, constructive, redemptive power of God within them.
I said children of God should because unlike others we do not fully realise and release God’s power in us. This is a bad situation for Christians to be in because if we do not fully harness God’s power to our own advantage we will always be at the mercy of the devil in this life. So the good question is “If I do have the power already then how do I realise and release it?”
Realising the power of God in you simply means knowing, understanding and accepting that you received the power of God when the Holy Spirit came upon you (Acts 1:8). Releasing the power means exercising it over the problems, trials and challenges of life. Perhaps nothing brings the full meaning of realising and releasing the power of God within us than the account of the miraculous healing of a certain cripple narrated briefly below.
A story was told of a man who had been crippled with arthritis for several years and was unable to bend his knees. One evening a hold up man came in and pointed a gun at his head and shouted, “Kneel down behind the counter!” The crippled man answered, “I can’t. I am crippled with arthritis.” The bandit said to him, “I will give you 10 seconds to kneel down or I will kill you.” The crippled man bent his knees easily, and gradually he recovered. What accounted for his healing?
Quite obviously the pistol had no power to heal. A principle of healing was involved in the process and if he had realised and applied that principle he could have been healed earlier. The power to bend his knees, to walk and run, was always present with him. The only problem was that he believed otherwise.
Today many of us do the same. We allow ourselves to be completely engrossed and absorbed in pains, aches, limitations and weaknesses. We fix our eyes on the problems, challenges and temptations instead of fixing our minds on the wonderful and glorious power of God that can deliver us. And that divine power is hidden in us, not in heaven.
When the attention of that crippled man was forcibly taken off himself and his ailment, and was directed to save his life at all costs the process of healing began. The redirection of his attention from the problem to solution released the miracle of healing. Where you place your attention is important: in some cases it can be a matter of life or death for you.
Everyone marvelled and looked at Peter as if he were a god. But he plainly told them the formula; it was the power of the risen Christ working through a bold, daring, believing and expectant man that did the miracle. Peter emphasised that it was not his personal power or his holiness that wrought the miracle. That should be an insult to our excuse of not being holy or righteous enough.
You may not have the holiness of Enoch that warranted his transfer from this earth to heaven without seeing death; but surely you have enough holiness as a spiritually reborn child of God to realise and release the power of God within you.
Peter openly acknowledged that though he did not have silver or gold he nevertheless had the power of God within him. To put it in the language of the late Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa of Nigeria, Peter was not a billionare but a believernaire.
One who has money is limited to things that money can buy but one who has the power of God can do all things through Christ who streng-thens him or her.
Use God’s pow-er to solve the seemingly insurmountable problems of life and you too will leap up in praise and worship to God whose po-wer can thwart any foe and dissolve every problem. You have at your disposal the power that moves the world, dissolves problems, raises the dead and delivers captives of the mighty.
This power of Almighty God is in you. Begin now to put it into action by your faith and marvellous wonders will happen in your life.
