Culture of fear in ZANU-PF
EDITOR — There is something wrong with ZANU-PF. It is a party governed by fear and suspicion. Members cannot see the effect of fear on their organisational culture because there are only friends and enemies (hence the much talked about factions). This consequence of fear and bootlicking is a cancer slowly corroding the heart of ZANU-PF. The refusal of the party’s leadership to name a successor has exacerbated the woes facing the party. They speak only what they want to hear. All of this is fuelled by an intense paranoia, which manifests in authoritarianism and more fear, making the likelihood of ZANU-PF to properly engage with reality all the more remote; that is, if anyone has the courage to present the truth in the first place. Factionalism is a self-made disease. These men and women may have been genuine heroes once upon a time, but they have turned themselves into a pack of vultures not only devouring each other but all of Zimbabwe’s children. ZANU-PF is running down the country on our watch.
