Ammara Brown and DJ Zaza expose life after fame

Ammara Brown

IT is not every day where one gets to experience the life behind the scenes of popular celebrities and personalities.
Veteran Female Director and Producer Wizzy Mangoma in partnership with DOP and Sound specialists Heart of Africa, through her documentary Girl Talk Wizzys Lounge Titaure Exclusive Picnic, explores the lives of Singer and Actress Ammara Brown alongside radio and television personality DJ Zaza.
The documentary sees the ladies in a moment of sisterhood take time out of their busy schedules to relax and enjoy the best of what nature has to offer in the Harare Botanical Gardens.
With a spread of wine, cheese and crackers, they let loose and unwind.
The serene and peaceful environment enables the ladies to openly talk about life away from the spotlight.
Audiences will get to hear and see the struggles and pains these women go through daily whilst in the public eye, seemingly unfazed by life’s challenges.
The trio talk about their emotions on losing their parents, masking their grief in public and crying behind closed doors.
Members of the audience who got to watch the first screening at Stimulus Hub, during a Question and Answer session, expressed their delight of watching a film that did not focus on the fame but on the humanity and candid talk the ladies gave.
One would never know that Ammara received the news of loss whilst on stage performing at a concert, carried on without the audience knowing, then breaking down after her performance.

Or DJ Zaza entertaining the nation and putting on a brave front whilst the news of her mother’s passing hit.
The ladies talk about their spiritual life and how prayer, visiting the graves and talking to their late parents’ spirits helps them deal with loss.
In the documentary, each of the ladies talk about their relationships with their mothers and how they had to care for them during their last days.
They each always wear a memento from their mothers with Ammara in her mothers Kaftan, DJ Zaza as well as Wizzy in their mothers traditional beads.
The documentary will have you laughing and crying and gives audiences a better understanding of what it means to be a public figure in Zimbabwe.
While it is about women with an all women cast, it allows audiences from all genders to connect with their own personal experiences of losing a loved one and how they individually deal with death and the importance of talking about it.
Girl Talk Wizzys Lounge Titaure Exclusive Picnic by Wizzy Mangoma will be screened for free at the National Arts Gallery of Zimbabwe on Wednesday at 5.30pm.
It has been nominated for Best Zimbabwean Documentary as well as Best Zimbabwean film with best sound.
Audiences will get an opportunity to have a question and answer session with Wizzy and her cast Ammara and DJ Zaza after the screening.
This documentary is part of the week long International Images Film Festival for Women hosted by the Women Filmmakers of Zimbabwe.
Running under the theme Women Alive, Women of Heart from August 26 to September 3.
All films being screened are free and the venues include Ster Kinekor Borrowdale, Alliance Francaise, National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe, Stimulus Innovation Centre at 171 Fife Avenue and Rutendo Hall in Mufakose. Showbiz.co.zw
