Byo publishers amaBooks return from Kenyan sojourn

Many years after the author’s death, the literary works live on and have been the subjects of many stage films and plays that have captured the popular imagination.
It is therefore heart warming to meet publishers whose labour of love is books. Think of Jane Morris and Brian Jones as mid wives to many a local author’s dream of birthing the creatures of their imagination through books. You can be an author but you need to either approach a publisher or self publish, which is very tedious and of course expensive. With 23 books under their catalogue to date, amaBooks are getting recognition from far and wide.
Recently the publishers arrived from a month long sojourn in Nairobi, Kenya after an invitation from Kwani Trust and Granta a U.K. magazine. There were two workshops going on actually workshop for publishers was held at the British Council offices. It was organized by Kwani Trust and Granta .The aim was basically to bring about enlightenment amongst publishers and to showcase some of the young best British writers such as Nadipa Mohamed, said Brian Jones. A young local writer Novuyo Rosa Tshuma accompanied the couple to the workshop as the young Zimabwean writer.
The team of Morris and Jones, as founders of amaBooks have published twenty three books since year 2000. The books span poetry, and books on culture in 21st century Zimbabwe. amaBooks has bagged several awards.
Incidentally, amaBooks are the local distributors for Man prize U.K. literary award worth 50 00 pounds for her first novel We Need New Namesa!
