Chris Brown may face jail after monkey seized
US singer Chris Brown could face jail for not having a permit to own his pet capuchin monkey.
California’s wildlife department seized the primate – named Fiji – from the star’s Los Angeles home after a video he posted on Instagram of his three-year-old daughter cuddling it drew half-a-dozen calls from concerned followers.
Brown was not home when agents executed a search warrant on 2 January, but employees handed the animal over and he has since agreed to cooperate, according to the department’s Captain Patrick Foy.
He may now face a misdemeanour charge, which carries a potential six-month prison sentence.
He previously served time in jail after flouting the terms of a probation order placed on him following a fight in Washington in October 2013.
Meanwhile Fiji – whose species is well-versed in the world of entertainment through notable appearances in Pirates of the Caribbean and the sitcom Friends – is being kept at an undisclosed facility.
