Christmas in July at Meikles
The event will be held in the hotel’s flagship restaurant, La Fontaine Grillroom, on July 23, with a six-course dinner, entertainment by local singing star, Dean Jones, and the presence of Father and Mother Christmas with presents and give-aways for diners. The United Methodist Choir will be present to sing carols and Christmas songs in the foyer as guests arrive, just as they do each Christmas Eve.
“Christmas in the southern hemisphere is celebrated at the height of summer, so people often enjoy the food perhaps a little less than their counterparts in the northern hemisphere, where it is celebrated in mid-winter,” said the Meikles Hotel general manager, Tinashe Munjoma.
“So we are pulling out all the stops to give people a mid-winter treat here, with a second Christmas dinner on offer.”
“This will be a fine opportunity for people to enjoy all the trimmings of Christmas cuisine and attendant fun activities at a time of the year when the weather makes them perhaps that much more enjoyable,” said Munjoma.
La Fontaine has a history of hosting special functions, in addition to playing the role of one of Zimbabwe’s best-known and most celebrated dining venues. The restaurant was opened in December 1958 and has since that time become a landmark on the local dining and entertainment scene.
Open for lunch every weekday and dinner every night, La Fontaine is at present undergoing changes to menu and wine list, part of the ongoing plan to ensure the restaurant has enduring appeal to even the most frequent of diners.
During the year, La Fontaine offers live music from a resident band on selected evenings, or piano music from various pianists at lunchtimes or in the evenings. In addition, occasional special events are hosted, ranging from Valentine’s Day dinner to meals on Mothers’ Day, and from theme weeks to functions such as birthdays, anniversaries and office dinner parties.
“Christmas in July will be another such occasion, with a fine six-course meal and attendant fun and entertainment to give diners of all ages a wonderful night out,” said Munjoma.
The meal will include a range of mouth-watering gourmet dishes designed to please the palate and the eye, starting with a choice of appetisers.
The main course will offer a choice between traditional turkey and ham, or lamb or kingklip or a vegetarian butternut cannelloni. Dessert will be a trio made up of Christmas pudding, blueberry ice cream and amarula and almond cheesecake.
Booking for the evening is now open.
