Comedy fiesta in the Park

The show started on Tuesday and runs until Saturday. The main attrctions are well-known commedians EdgarLangeveldt (pictured right), Michael K, Toropito, Uncle Sam and Dr Vikela.
“Comedy Fiesta’s main objective is to bring the fast growing industry closer to the people with this being the first of many to come. Stand-up comedy has been on a rising surge with the leading exponents being Simuka Comedy, who recently celebrated their first year anniversary and the Bang, Bang! Comedy club which also hosts monthly shows in the capital but it is this five day thriller that will surely put the comics to test of character and strength,” says Dave  Guzha the artistic director of Rooftop Promotions.
“We are glad to open up our doors to comedy. It has always been our mission to give back to the arts industry and this is one way. We want to contribute more and in a systematic manner to the growth of the comedy industry especially after Edgar Langeveldt launched his comedy career at this very same venue many years ago. This is the first of many partnerships with other players in the arts industry,” he adds.
Coordinator of the event, Victor Mpofu, acknowledged the partnership with Rooftop  Promotions at the oval theatre. He said it was his hope that local stand-up comedians would have a chance to get closer to their fans.
“The fiesta is a celebration of what we have achieved as individual comedians and it’s a pity that Carl Joshua Ncube, Simba and Q-the-Boss could not be part of the event. We are very optimistic that this is the beginning of a lasting relationship between Rooftop and comedians alike and urge all and sundry to come and laugh with us,” said Ncube.
Meanwhile, Carl Joshua Ncube and crew are in Bulawayo for yet another exhilarating weekend comedy encounter. The two-day show, featuring Cde Fatso, Ntando van Moyo, Clive Chigubu and Ncube among other comedians, runs on Saturday and Sunday evening at Bulawayo Theatre. Ncube is a strong believer in that if serious issues such as politics and socio-economic topics are discussed in a light-hearted manner, then they would be better understood.
“Politics and racial jokes are huge barriers and can be highly sensitive in Zimbabwe, but it doesn’t stop comedy from happening. There are many other topics that people will enjoy watching, things like Zesa blackouts, water unavailability and other social concerns,” Ncube once said.
