Cristiano Ronaldo’s value rise in 2019

Cristiano Ronaldo’s value rose in 2019 but still short of top-20 most valuable footballers in the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo may be on the wrong side of 30 but the Juventus superstar has seen his transfer value rise significantly over the last 12 months, according to CIES Football Observatory.

After ranking as the 49th most valuable footballer in the world during 2018, many would have expected the ageing Ronaldo to continue the decline. But since his club-record move to Juventus, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has seen his estimated value increase from €80.4 to €127m.

While this marks a remarkable achievement for a professional footballer at his age, the Portugal captain only ranks 19th within the new year.

His long-standing rival and fellow five-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has dropped down from second place to seventh over the past 12 months.

France and Paris Saint-Germain wonderkid Kylian Mbappe has soared past Neymar Jr and Harry Kane to the summit of the list – while Mohamed Salah and Raheem Sterling has entered the top-five for the first time.

Top-ten most valuable footballers in 2019, as per the CIES report

1. Kylian Mbappe (PSG) – €218.5m

2. Harry Kane (Tottenham) – €200.3m

3. Neymar (PSG) – €197.1m

4. Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) – €185.8m

5. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – €184.3m

6. Paulo Dybala (Juventus) – €171.9m

7. Lionel Messi (Barcelona) – €171.2m

8. Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United) – €162.0m

9. Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona) – €157.0m

10. Leroy Sane (Manchester City) – €156.1m
