Rainsford rejects ZC board election

EX-ZIMBABWE international cricketer Edward Rainsford has disowned his Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) board nomination and appointment, in a development which has exposed the lack of integrity in the entire process to elect a new council.

Edward Charles Rainsford is a Zimbabwean cricketer.

Edward  Rainsford is a former Zimbabwean cricketer.

This comes after Tavengwa Mukuhlani’s board was suspended by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) after defying the regulatory body’s order to suspend the controversial June 14 election until a number of issues had been fixed.

“While the nomination was done in his absence, our client has not received any formal notification of this nomination and consequently has not accepted such nomination,” Rainsford’s lawyers Samukange-Hungwe Attorneys said in a recent letter to the embattled ZC.

“Our instructions are… Rainsford respectively declines the nomination/possible appointment into the Zimbabwe Cricket structures as he is pre-occupied with other cricket related commitments..,” they said.

Despite protestations that the Gerald Mlotshwa-led SRC’s “interference” would result in an International Cricket Council ban, the under-fire board has also suffered another blow after the High Court dismissed its chamber application to suspend the superior body’s action.

With Zimbabwe being a full global member and test playing nation, its case will be heared or determined in England this week and where Mukuhlani, and the interim ZC board have “all been invited to make their representations”.
