Exciting folk-traditional Portuguese music at HIFA

.The group is on a three-nation tour of southern Africa, with stops in Namibia and South Africa with the highlight performance being at HIFA. The group has a massive reputation and following and has a busy performing calendar throughout Europe. They have recorded two albums to date and these are Pé na Terra (2007) and 13 (2010).
According to the embassy, the band represents the European vanguard of folk-traditional-contemporary crossover and has changed perceptions about traditional Portuguese music without losing sight of their heritage.
The audience at HIFA will have a rare opportunity to see and hear instruments they may not have ever come across before from the five-member group.
This is part of the HIFA organising committee’s view to focus on collaborations but with special emphasis on various types of traditional and contemporary styles.
“It is always a pleasure and privilege whenever we are able to work with enthusiastic and generous partners such as the Embassy of Portugal on projects that show how important it is to preserve and disseminate a country’s heritage,” said HIFA’s founder and artistic director, Manuel Bagorro.
“Zimbabwe has its own rich heritage which is being showcased on the very same stage (the Lays Global Stage) as Pé na Terra and we hope that heritage will also get as much exposure outside Zimbabwe as Portuguese music is getting outside its borders.”
The group will perform on the Lays Global Stage on BancABC Day (May 1) at 6pm and again on Stanbic Bank Day (May 4) at 8.30pm. – Own correspondent.
