Fabio Capello believes Juventus can cope without Paul Pogba

FORMER Juventus boss Fabio Capello has praised the club’s transfer dealings and claims that Paul Pogba isn’t necessary for success this coming season.

The current Serie A champions have been very active during the transfer window, bringing in Miralem Pjanic, Medhi Benatia, Marko Pjaca and Dani Alves.

Reports yesterday also surfaced that last season’s Golden Boot winner Gonzalo Higuain has been purchased from Napoli for a fee of €94.7million.

“If they decided to get Higuain, it’s because they thought carefully and realised they needed a player like that,” Capello told La Stampa.

“Seeing as at Juve they pay close attention to the value of players and possible exchanges, they also know that in the middle of the park they can do without Pogba. Maybe not in terms of power, but when it comes to quality yes.

“I’d say it’s clear Juventus are working towards winning the Champions League. If before they were fighting to be among the top four in Europe, now they are right in there.

“After that, winning the tournament also requires good luck.”

Capello was jokingly asked if there is a point to the other teams in the Serie A even competing considering the Bianconeri’s recent dominance of the league.

“It was already pointless before, even without Higuain,” he said. “The truth is that Juve started early and are continuing to gain an advantage over all their rivals.”

The 70-year old was also asked if he sees the Higuain transfer as one similar to his famous signing of Gabriel Batistuta at Roma.
