Gentle Brook leads Sable Flyers cast

SOUTH AFRICAN bred,Gentle Brook leads a cast of horses nominated for the Sables Flyers race to be held at Borrowdale Race course. There is US$9 000 stake money in this main event to be run over 1 300 metres. The four year old filly from the Amy Bronkhorst stable has a good record over that distance with three wins and one placing in five starts.

The daughter of Windrush and Powerful Parrish had an impressive record of five wins and three placings in 16 runs when she relocated to Zimbabwe and is the overwhelming favourite in the race that has attracted 12 horses. Gentle Brook has been well conditioned by Bronkhorst and is in the capable hands of groomer Innocent Mahwata who takes care of horses under the Bronkhorst stable.Bronkhorst who is enjoying her second year in horse training has so much faith in the filly that Gentle Brook is her only nomination for the 1 300 Sable Flyers race.

Bronkhorst had a good debut year last season in which she finished fourth in the champion trainer table behind Lisa Harris, Kirk Swanson and Ghokan Terzi. Gentle Brook is the only of the 12 horses in this race who has campaigned against the best in the top races having taken part in the Grade One Castle Tankard last season.

Although from the outset, Gentle Brook looks the favouite for the title, champion trainer Lisa Harris who kicked off the season in style with the season open win by Count The Music, fields four horses in the race Casey’s Dance and Wisteria Way from South Africa as well as Zimbabwe’s own Expeditious and Marumbala.

The other trainers also have their share of fielding with Alyson Wright sending out American Smooth and Picalilly, another of the three Zimbabwean horses in the race. Terzi lines up one horse You’re So In Vain. Cornie Spies shares the highest number of horses in the race with Harris as she also has four-all South Africa-bred.  These are Gee I Jane, Purple Turtle, Snow Call and Olympic Goal. – Michael Kariati
