Harare to host Solly Mahlangu
AWARD winning South African gospel artist, Solly Mahlangu will be performing in Harare Gardens on September 7 at the invitation of Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe’s Shiloh Word Miracle Centre’s Open Heavens Crusade and Gospel Show.
AFM Shiloh Word Miracle Centre will be holding its fifth Open Heavens Crusade which would run from September 2 to 6 as Mabelreign shopping centre. The assembly would then hold a gospel music concert on Saturday, September 7 at Harare Gardens where high profile artistes who have inspired the people of Zimbabwe have been lined up.
Mahlangu who is back to Open Heavens by popular demand after gracing the occasion last year would share the stage with popular musicians such as Baba and Amai Charamba, Sebastian Magacha, Mathias Mhere, Liberty Ticharwa and Worship Addicts.
In 2008 Mahlangu released the Obrigado album that became a hit and made him a household name from the onset. “The more I travelled around the world the more Obrigado became like a national anthem,” he said. On his album called Mwamba Mwamba he said his aim is to incorporate all languages in his music and create a fusion that will be enjoyed across the continent.
Last year Mahlangu scooped four awards both in South Africa and United Kingdom and also received the best male gospel artist award in Africa.
In an interview with The Financial Gazette last year, Mahlangu promised to be back in Zimbabwe after being “touched by Zimbabwean’s hospitality, love for God and support for gospel show”.
He advises aspiring musicians that the music industry had challenges that one has to overcome.
“One has to go through hurdles and there are certain doors that one cannot easily open. It is always better to be ready and have no opportunity than to have an opportunity and not be ready.
The Open Heavens music concert boasts attendance of a cross section of people drawn from virtually all sectors of the economy who come together in an ambience of divine praise and worship and is seen, ‘a bridge of reconciliation, and a beacon of light and hope to the much afflicted and sick to receive greater glory from God.
Reverend Onisimor Sasa who is the brainchild and visionary behind Open Heavens Crusade says the aim of the Crusade was to reach out to many communities with the gospel message that is able to bring healing, breakthrough, peace of mind and strength to live by prayer according to God’s word to people.
“The Word of God tells us that music is a powerful tool in provoking the presence of God. We want people to know that salvation is for everyone regardless of age, nationality or race,” Rev Sasa said.
“We (also) want to bring people together in an atmosphere of worship so that they are encouraged in the faith and receive Greater Glory,” added Rev Sasa.
Open Heavens crusade has brought popular musicians such as Keke Phoofolo popularly known as “Keke” who was the guest artiste together with Zanele at the 2011 Open Heavens crusade.
