Huawei scoops awards at AfricaCom 2014
HUAWEI Technologies, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider has won two awards at the prestigious AfricaCom Awards ceremony held last week in Cape Town, South Africa.
The first award was for the best cost efficiency solution for Africa which was won by Huawei’s field trial of Transport Software Defined Networking (SDN) and 2.4 T (super-channel) wavelength division multiplexing system (WDM), a world’s first transport SDN solution trial which is the largest capacity system worldwide to date, based on a centralised controller and covers intelligent optical network and a 2.4T WDM system.
The other award was for the best marketing campaign which it jointly won with MTN of South Africa. As a socially responsible corporate citizen MTN put together its own 67 minute campaign in honour of Nelson Mandela’s life, by announcing to their subscribers that they would be giving 67 minutes free Talktime away on Mandela’s birthday as well as other surprises and goodies fit for the Digital World. Huawei Technologies as a key strategic partner to the MTN Group assisted MTN with this promotion by providing its state of the art CRBT (colour ring back tone) platform seen as a major contributor to the success of this campaign.
Cao Ming, Vice President of Huawei Technologies Eastern and Southern Africa, said, “Software Defined Networking is the next generation of network structure, and we’re glad that we achieved the Best Cost Efficiency Solution for Africa with our SDN solution. Also, it’s significant that MTN SA and Huawei jointly received the Best Marketing Campaign Award as strategic partners. Helping our customers to achieve business success is Huawei’s commitment. Huawei continuously supports customers with leading solutions such as the CRBT to achieve business success for our customers.”
