I feel humbled: Wendall

Nibbles, as Wendall was known in the Big Brother house, was a happy man when on Thursday, saw his fortune ballooning to US$250 000 after he received an additional US$50 000 cash from President Robert Mugabe at a State function to honour him and Vimbai for their exploits in Big Brother house. The function also saw three-time winner of the prestigious Comrades Marathon, Stephen Muzhingi, also getting the same amount and Vimbai getting US$10 000.
This year M-Net’s virtual reality TV game show, Big Brother Africa Amplified, saw two winner getting US$200 000 apiece after a gruelling 91 days in a house where 26 contestants were vying for the top honours. The other housemate to win was Karen Igho, from Nigeria, who also received US$200 000 from Big Brother.
Wendall used all the adjectives he could pick to describe his joy for his new-found fortune and fame.
He said his three-month stay in the house was “one of the best experiences of my life” and that he was “humbled” by representing his country.
Vimbai, on the other hand, said her stay in the Big Brother house was “the most memorable time of my life”.
However, she said she got a sense of relief though that her countryman, Wendall, would win when she was evicted. She said she was also “humbled” by the reception she received particularly the reception hosted by President Mugabe at State House.
She congratulated Wendall for winning and hoped “he would invest the money wisely for the benefit of the country”. She said she would be going back to her previous occupations which include media, fashion and modelling.
But what does he intend to do with his new-found fame and fortune?
Wendall says he plans to invest his winnings and live as he did before he entered the Big Brother house.
His mother, Gillian Parson, says Wendall “hopes to do his conversion with Air Zimbabwe as soon as possible in order to apply for employment with the national airline”.
“He has realised he will be expected to support a family one day and would like to be able to achieve that for his family when he is ready. He is hoping to use the umbrella of Big Brother Africa to raise funds or ways to rebuild a primary school under Rotary 9210, but this is till at the discussion table,” she said.
Last year, Big Brother Africa runner-up, Munyaradzi Chidzonga – widely believed to have been cheated – was presented with US$300 000 raised by a group of businessmen.
