CAPS United face a potential banana skin as most of their regulars are in the casualty ward  ahead of their CAF Champions League match on Wednesday.

The Green Machine hosts USM Alger of Algeria in their second group B match at the National Sports Stadium this Wednesday in the capital, with Makepekepe in search of maximum points after losing 2-0 to Zamalek in Egypt in the opening match less than a fortnight ago.

Valentine Musarurwa, Tafadzwa Rusike, Hardlife Zvirekwi, Leonard Tsipa, James Nguluve and Zvikomborero Biseki are some of the notable casualties who under took light training on Sunday at the B Arena (NSS).

The injured are however bound to a late fitness test on Tuesday that will determine their availability for selection for the big game.

“We have a number of players who are injured but we are still to determine the intensity. We will assess them if they are fit to play on Wednesday,” said Lloyd Chitembwe.

Former captain Moses Muchenje is optimistic the Green Machine will come to the party and rise to the occasion.

“The Zamalek loss is now water under the bridge and this is a new game which we will approach differently. At all cost, we are looking for a positive result to ease pressure on ourselves and keep pace with the leading pack,” said Muchenje.

Kick off time is 1500hrs and the cheapest ticket is pegged at US$5. – sportbrief.co.zw
