Juventus legends question Ronaldo deal

Cristiano Ronaldo record transfer to Juventus questioned by former Director and club legend.

Juventus’ significant investment in signing Cristiano Ronaldo at the age of 33 has been questioned by two Juventus icons, whom both claim the deal does not make sense.

Ronaldo joined Juventus last month in a sensational €100 million deal after a clean sweep of silverware in the nine-years at Real Madrid.

Despite becoming the 13-time European champions record scorer and winning four Ballon d’Or titles and still the current holder of the award – his transfer has been questioned by former General Manager Luciano Moggi.

“In terms of marketing, it’s a sensational deal,” Moggi told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“But I would never have spent such a high fee on a 33-year-old – and I would certainly not have announced it before selling Higuain, someone who scores 20 goals a season.”

Meanwhile, former UEFA Chief Michel Platini, who won the Ballon d’Or three times and won seven major titles in seven seasons with the Old Lady, claims the move makes no sense to him.

“I think it’s odd that at 33 years of age he’s left ‘his’ Rea; Madrid, with who he has won three Champions Leagues in a row, to try a new adventure,” Platini told L’Equipe.

“When I was 32 lots of teams wanted me, but I retired because I was tired.”

Platini also questioned the way in which the transfer had taken place, saying he didn’t know if Juventus got in touch with Cristiano or if Mendes had offered the striker.
