Liquid Lounge rebrands
Upper Lounge proprietor, Martin Makaya, last Friday invited guests for the relaunch of the joint as Upper Launch which he hopes will usher in a new era for those who like going for a night out or for social and corporate functions.
Now operating under the theme “Entertainment Redefined” motto, the Upper Lounge now boasts of an “expanded entertainment programme” anchored on its beverages section, restaurant and functions all besides a wide selection of music.
“First, we are rebranding because the name was just too tired. We need to define the place in line with the expanded entertainment programme,” said Makaya.
“Since I took over this place, it had its own associations and I needed to create a name directly associated with me. We have classified our service and it’s very necessary because as the Upper Lounge, we can’t please everyone; so we are targeting those people who seek a certain service of upper class.”
He said he had introduced a wide range of cocktails and “these cocktails are not found in any night spot, but hotels. In addition, the clients can also opt to have buffets”.
From May to July, the joint played host to the Big Brother Africa fan club. Two Zimbabweans – Vimbai Mutinhiri and Wendall Parsons – participated in the sixth edition of the M-Net reality TV show dubbed Amplified in which Wendall was a co-winner.
One of the innovations that he has introduced includes a website, which has information about upcoming events and where individuals and corporate can book meals or functions.
“This is a business interactive website where you can book a function. You see, the joint is high-tech-driven and it suits the current day,” he said adding.
“We have set our standards high and we are not apologetic about it. We want to be the entry point for all diasporans as they come for their holidays. In line with this, we have got Upper Lounge ambassadors in Africa and abroad,” he said.
