Liquid Telecom To Support Developers At The 2019 Global Game Jam
2019 Global Game Jam is underway and the largest game creation event will be taking place over this weekend in various locations around the world. Oh wait if you’re wondering what exactly this event is about, don’t worry we’ve got you.
A global hackathon
Think of Game Jam as a global hackathon with the central focus being on game development. The structure of a jam is usually that everyone gathers on Friday late afternoon, watches a short video keynote with advice from leading game developers, and then a secret theme is announced. All sites worldwide are then challenged to make games based on that same theme, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon. Last year the Global jam was spread across 803 locations in 108 (112 this year) countries and a whopping 8 606 games were created in one weekend.
So what is Liquid Telecom playing in all of this?
In Africa, the Jam is being hosted in a number of countries which include; Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Zambia. In these four countries, Liquid Telecom is going to provide to host the jams along with “high-speed connectivity” over the course of the Game Jam.
Liquid Telecom and gaming
LT seems very enthusiastic to be involved in the African gaming scene as this isn’t their first involvement. Earlier last year, Liquid Telecom provided internet access for the Pro Series Gaming Tournament in Kenya and closer to a home they sponsored some Mortal Kombat Gaming tournaments in partnership with Comexposed.
Why no Zimbabwe???
Well, Zim was actually part of the lineup of countries supposed to be part of the Game Jam but Liquid Telecom had to cancel their plans to host Zim “due to the recent internet shutdowns by the government.” Hopefully, we will be part of that lineup next year.
