Lock Of John Lennon’s Hair Sells For US$35 000

The singer’s tuft is said to be the largest lock of his hair ever sold at auction and kept by his German hairdresser for 50 years.

A lock of John Lennon’s hair has sold for US$35 000 (£24,000).

German hairdresser Klaus Baruck, who offered the item for sale, claims he held onto the former Beatle’s tuft after giving him a trim in Hamburg in 1967.

A statement released by Heritage Auctions in Dallas declared Mr Baruck cut Lennon’s hair in preparation for his role in the dark comedy How I Won The War.
The Beatles legend portrayed Private Gripweed in the Richard Lester film.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest lock of Lennon’s hair ever sold at auction,” Heritage Auctions said.

“It can be dated to a specific time and location and has been in the collection of the original owner for all these nearly 50 years.

“This haircut took place just a month after the release of the legendary Revolver album. A rare and important opportunity.”

The hair was one of several Beatles-related items on auction. A photograph of the iconic band signed by all four members went for $42,500 (£29,500).

And a sealed copy of the band’s “butcher” cover for the Yesterday And Today album went for $125,000 (£89,900).

The winning bidder also receive a signed call sheet from the film and “two vintage period newspaper articles regarding this landmark haircut”, the auctioneer said. SkyNews.com
