Major tax indaba set for this month

ZIMBABWE’S top finance and business publication, The Financial Gazette, in partnership with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) and the Zimbabwe Institute of Tax Accountants (ZITA), will on March 24 host the 4th edition of the Annual Tax Review breakfast meeting.
The annual indaba, to be held in Harare, has been hugely successful over the past years in providing a critical dialogue platform for the business sector to raise pertinent issues.

“We are pleased that the Zimra acting commissioner general, Regina Chinamasa, has pledged her support for this year’s meeting. We will have participants from across the business sector including manufacturing, mining, tourism and a host of others. They will be able to interact with the authorities, present their views and queries and hear from the acting commissioner general,” The Financial Gazette’s general manager, sales and advertising, Edwin Vengesa, said.

“This event is part of our annual stakeholder engagement initiatives and efforts. It is aimed at raising awareness on tax issues, especially in the current prevailing volatile economic environment. Participants will also include ministry of Finance senior representatives and other tax experts.”
The meeting aims to provide a feedback platform for stakeholders on the challenges, opportunities and developments in Zimbabwean tax matters.

It will also provide the tax ombudsman with an interactive opportunity with key representatives of various sectors of the economy.
The dialogue will be of immense benefit to strategic economic players including key government officials from various sectors of the economy, regulatory authorities, captains of industry and commerce, corporate players in the energy sector, finance houses, potential investors and scholars.

Business has been pushing for a review of the intermediated money transfer tax, saying it may need to be reduced, removed or made tax deductible for the formal sector, which is already paying other tax heads.
