Manyeruke, legends rock Zimpraise DVD
All of the night’s best acts are featured on this DVD, expected to be out by the end of this month.
Zimpraise is a collection of various talented gospel artists who have been going around the country, staging concerts to promote their various music styles and now become a household name on the gospel music scene. Most of the musicians are young and energetic and take their cue from virtuosos such as Baba Manyeruke.
As artists took turns to go on stage delivering top drawer performances, revellers were kept on their feet. Baba Manyeruke became the toast of the ocassion, as people continued to request him to churn out yesteryear hits such as “Moses”.
Manyeruke came on stage soon after Pastor Rita Shonhiwa had performed her one-hit track “Makaita Henyu Jesu”, initially composed in the early 80s. Upon hearing instrumental samples, the crowd would lead into singing the track even before the initial start.
The first apostolic choral group to record a studio album, Vabati VaJehovha, sustained the heat with performances of their acapella hits such as “Vanouya Chete” and “Handikusiyei”.
The crowd could not cheer any less for Pastor Haisa of the “Handirambi” fame endeared himself well with the audience, which included Information, Communication and Technology Minister, Nelson Chamisa and flamboyant businessman Philip Chiyangwa – who honoured him with US$1000 dollars to rekindle his musical career after an alleged adulterous scandal got the better of him some few years ago.
Not to be outdone was Elias Musakwa of the Ngaavongwe stable, who produced most of the yesteryear gospel stars with some of his great hits. Songstress, Shingisai Suluma’s “Nanhasi” got the crowd into a frenzy when one of Zimpraise Choir’s lead vocalist sang the rendition of the song. One would be forgiven to think that she was on stage.
The same goes for Fungisayi Zvakavapano-Mashavave, whose songs were also performed in her absence by her imitator. The late songstress, Jackie Madondo’s memory was relived by her younger sister, Mabel, who delivered a top drawer performance of “Mazuva Acho” alongside their dad who could not hold back his tears.
