Mariah Carey’s Christmas hit to be made into a film
MARIAH Carey’s 1994 smash hit All I Want For Christmas Is You is to be turned into an “enduring holiday classic film”.
The movie will be fully CGI animated, starring School Of Rock’s Breanna Yde as the voice of young Mariah, who decides all she wants for Christmas is a puppy that she sees in a pet shop.
But, to prove herself as a responsible pet owner, Mariah has to take care of a mutt named Jack, who turns her family’s life upside down.
“I am thrilled to be able to bring the story of the song to new generations of families,” Mariah said on Twitter.
The 23-year-old single is one of the best-selling Christmas songs of all time and has already been adapted to a children’s book of the same name.
“Like the song itself, Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You is destined to become an enduring family holiday classic,” said Universal Entertainment.
“It is packed with family fun, holiday spirit, poignant moments and of course, Mariah Carey.”
The pop diva will be producing and narrating the movie, which will also feature the voices of Henry Winkler and Lacey Chabert.
In the first trailer, Mariah appears in her seasonal pyjamas, lying on a couch and stroking a pet dog, saying: “I don’t want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing I need.”
But some fans on social media were left wondering why the singer was announcing a festive film in spring.
“Only Mariah could announce a Xmas movie in March,” one user wrote.
But others said they were “ready and festive” for the “Queen of Christmas” to be animated on screen.
The film will be released later this year. – news.sky.com
